The Selection Process
Gates Cambridge uses a two-stage selection process to ensure our Scholars meet all of our criteria to the highest level.
1. Departmental nomination
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship program relies on academic departments in Cambridge to propose a select few eligible candidates who fulfill all four scholarship criteria at an exceptional level. This approach guarantees that the nominees are highly accomplished academically and have a strong likelihood of prospering as a postgraduate student at Cambridge. Additionally, this ensures that the nominees have demonstrated evidence of fulfilling the Gates Cambridge selection criteria. Only a small proportion of Gates Cambridge Scholarship applicants receive nominations from their departments and subsequently get invited for an interview.
2. Interview

The deadline for applicants who are both US citizens and residents of the United States is October 12, 2023. For the rest of the applicants, the deadline depends on their course. It is either December 1, 2023, or January 5, 2023.
Frequently Asked Questions About Gates Cambridge Scholarship for International Students
If you are receiving a salary from an employer or have another substantial scholarship, the Trust reserves the right to reduce or not pay the standard maintenance allowance. You should let the Trust know ASAP if you are awarded any funding towards your degree at Cambridge.
Most costs are covered by the Scholarship but Gates Cambridge does not cover bench fees or the costs of scientific equipment or similar academic resources. The Trust expects such core course costs to be covered by the academic department at Cambridge.
The Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying in Cambridge and may be held for one to three years of study. The value of the scholarship depends on the level of tuition fees for individual courses but is around $32,000 a year.
Please note there are different deadlines for U.S. citizens living in the United States at the time of application and for all other eligible applicants. GPA: To gain admission to Cambridge, minimum 3.5 GPA is required; if the academic requirement of the course is a first, minimum 3.7 GPA is required.
